NPTBDC Indigenous Housing has been providing both non-subsidized and subsidized housing for Indigenous families and seniors since 1973 using the following definitions:
“FAMILY” describes a minimum of two (2) persons, including at least one (1) dependent child.
“SPOUSE” means two (2) persons who:
i. are married to one another or who represent that they are married to one another;
ii. are not married to one another who prove they cohabitate in a relationship of permanence or represent that they intend to do so.
“SENIOR” also known as an “ELDER” describes persons who are the age of fifty-five (55) years or older, or a couple where at least one person is aged fifty-five (55) or older.
To be eligible for subsidized rent-geared-to-income (RGI) housing program waitlist, you must meet ALL of the following conditions at time of submitting your application:
· At least half (50%) of the household members must be Aboriginal in accordance with the Indian Act (where persons are of “Aboriginal Ancestry” if they are Indians as defined in the INDIAN ACT OF CANADA, persons commonly referred to as Indians, Non-status, Metis, or persons of the Inuit race).
· At least one (1) person of your household is sixteen (16) years of age or older and able to live independently, with or without supports.
· In the case of property projects with a mandate to house only senior individuals or couples, at least one (1) household member is fifty-five (55) years of age or older.
· If a single applicant with dependents, the Primary Applicant must have full custody of all dependents / children of the application and provide verification such as a letter from an agency involved with the care / custody of children confirming that full custody / primary residency has been granted or will be returned should proper housing be secured.
· Household members have the ability to pay monthly rent and provide verification of a current income source(s) for all household members who are eighteen (18) years of age or older, unless they are attending school full-time.
· No member of the household owes money to any social housing provider in Ontario; however, if you have an active repayment agreement in place that you are adhering to with said provider then you must provide proof of terms and payment schedule.
· No member of the household has been convicted of an offence in relation to rent-geared-to-income assistance or found by a court of law or the Landlord and Tenant Board to have misrepresented their income for the purpose of rent-geared-to-income assistance.
· Your combined gross annual household income and assets do not exceed the Household Income Limits (HILs) of $68,500; if so, then please complete a Market Rent Housing Application instead.
· All members of the household must be a Canadian citizen.
NPTBDC Indigenous Housing currently does not provide housing for single individuals who are under the age of fifty-five (55) years and / or with no dependents / children.
